Abstract

Unlike traditional insurance agents who generally represent specific insurers, insurance brokers act as intermediaries between customers and multiple insurance companies, helping clients compare policies, understand coverage, negotiate terms, and select suitable insurance products. The growth of insurance brokers has been supported by increasing insurance awareness, digital transformation, regulatory developments, changing customer expectations, and the growing complexity of insurance products. At the same time, brokers face several challenges, including intense competition, regulatory compliance, technological disruption, cybersecurity risks, customer trust issues, commission-related concerns, and the increasing adoption of direct digital insurance platforms. This study examines the emergence and evolving role of insurance brokers in the insurance industry, with particular emphasis on the opportunities and challenges influencing their growth.
