Abstract

This study, titled "Comparative Study of Fintech and Traditional Financial Institutions at Axis Bank," evaluates the structural, operational, and financial efficiency variances between fintech-enabled channels and legacy brick-and-mortar operations within a leading private commercial lender in India. Traditional banking infrastructures suffer from high Customer Acquisition Costs (CAC), prolonged loan turnaround times (TAT), and elevated operating cost-to-income ratios. This research compares legacy channels against automated fintech integrations—such as the Axis Digital Savings Account and neo-banking collaborations— over a 5-year project lifecycle (2021-2025). The study implements Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Payback Period (PBP), and Benefit-Cost Ratio (BCR) frameworks to determine the financial feasibility of Axis Bank's digital integration investments. Quantitative data reveals that fintech channels reduce CAC by up to 88% and lower the operating cost-to-income ratio from 45% to 25%. Turnaround time for loan approval falls from 72 hours via physical branches to under 6 minutes for pre-approved instant digital products. The financial model yields a positive NPV of 392.4 Crores and an IRR of 45.1%, confirming the high profitability of fintech integrations. The study concludes that traditional banks must continuously align physical branch structures with digital fintech portals to optimize retail market share and ensure long-term solvency.
