The mutual fund industry in India has emerged as one of the most important investment avenues for individuals seeking professional fund management, diversification, and long-term wealth creation. Over the past few decades, the industry has witnessed significant growth due to increasing financial awareness, digital transformation, and supportive regulatory initiatives by the Securities and Exchange Board of India and the Association of Mutual Funds in India. This study examines the growth, structure, and performance of mutual funds in India and analyzes investor preferences, awareness, and factors influencing investment decisions. The research focuses on various categories of mutual funds, including equity funds, debt funds, hybrid funds, and systematic investment plans (SIPs), and evaluates their role in promoting financial inclusion and savings among investors. The study is based on both primary and secondary data collected from investors, journals, reports, and published literature related to the Indian mutual fund sector. The findings indicate that mutual funds have become a preferred investment option due to their potential for higher returns, professional management, liquidity, and risk diversification. However, factors such as lack of financial literacy, market volatility, and limited awareness in rural areas continue to affect investment decisions. The study concludes that the mutual fund industry in India has substantial growth potential and recommends enhanced investor education, digital accessibility, and awareness programs to encourage greater participation and strengthen the country's investment ecosystem.
