Abstract

Air travel can be challenging for passengers who are deaf or hard of hearing due to limited access to auditory announcements and real-time flight information. This study presents FlightSense, an intelligent Zigbee-based assistance system designed to enhance the air travel experience for hearing-impaired passengers. The system integrates wearable devices, Zigbee communication modules, and centralized airport information systems to deliver real-time notifications, flight updates, gate changes, and safety alerts through visual and haptic feedback. Experimental deployment in a simulated airport environment demonstrates that FlightSense effectively improves situational awareness, reduces dependency on assistance personnel, and provides a more inclusive and comfortable travel experience. The results highlight the system’s potential to promote accessibility and independence for hearing-impaired air travelers.
