Abstract

Manual attendance systems in educational institutions are time-consuming, error-prone, and inefficient. Traditional methods such as roll calls or signature sheets can be easily manipulated and lack accuracy. This project introduces a Smart Card–based Class Attendance System using Raspberry Pi for automatic student authentication and attendance recording. Each student is assigned a unique RFID smart card containing identification data. When a card is scanned, the Raspberry Pi verifies the data and updates attendance records in a connected database or cloud storage. The system integrates hardware components such as an RFID reader, LCD display, and Raspberry Pi controller, with software that enables realtime logging and monitoring. The proposed solution enhances accuracy, reduces manual intervention, and ensures transparency in attendance management.
